Maurice Allen had to OUTRUN Ryan Learmonth in Comp Bike

The most bizarre drag race in history happened last night at the Coates Hire West Coast Nitro event, held at the world-class Perth Motorplex.

Riders Maurice Allen and Ryan Learmonth lined up aboard their 350-horsepower Suzukis to contest the semi-finals for Round 2 of the 400 Thunder Pro Bike series.

The bikes are usually capable of covering the strip in the low 7-second range, but on this pass, shortly after the green light both riders stalled their bikes.

Unable to restart their machines and with the finish line in sight, Allen and Learmonth had no other option but to start pushing.

In a scene reminiscent of the closing scenes to the popular NASCAR spoof Talladega Nights, both riders raced to finish line on foot, pushing their motorcycles.

Vision of the race has gone viral, reaching almost 1,000,000 people by lunchtime Sunday.

Allen went on to finally win the race in a little over three minutes to advance to the final run where he was ‘out run’ by fellow Victorian, Glenn Wooster – Wooster claiming his first 400 Thunder national event Pro Bike win and gold Christmas Tree.

400 Thunder returns to the Perth Motorplex in two weeks for the Nitro Max event on 5/6 March, featuring Top Fuel, Top Bike and the nation’s best Sportsman racers competing in the second West Australian round of the 400 Thunder Sportsman Series.
