Team DME Man Cup Memphis Report

The DME trailer rolled through the gates of Memphis International Raceway in the heart of ‘blues’ country with “ol Black Betty” ready to sing to the crowd that filled the stands on a blistering hot weekend. With temperatures in the mid to upper 90’s for the weekend it was not the usual routine for Team DME as they would have to tread lightly to navigate the track.

With the scheduled test and tune rained out on Friday the team would face a green track Saturday for qualifying. Dimey & Andy decided to play it safe for the first qualifier and backed down their insanely powerful DME bikes for round one of qualifying. The call turned out to be spot on as Joey and Terrance went 1-2 respectively. It further proved to be a great call as rising temperatures and tricky track conditions prevented both bikes from improving throughout the next two qualifiers. When Saturday came to a close it was a familiar scene as Joey had secured his fourth straight number one qualifier (in as many attempts). Terrance got knocked back one spot in each additional round of qualifying ending up with the number four starting position for Sunday’s main event.

The team put in some extra hours on Saturday evening going through Mamoondanga to make sure Terrance was ready to rock n’ roll during Sunday eliminations. First round went without a hitch as both Gladstone and Angela easily defeated their opponents to move into second round. With a second round matchup between Bud Yoder, Angela stepped up to the plate knowing he might need a starting line advantage over the powerful Yoder Team. Unfortunately Terrance pushed too hard and turned on the red light as he powered to his only six-second pass of the weekend. Known for his hard working but playful demeanor, Terrance was still smiling and glad to be able to put on a show for the fans in Memphis.

Meanwhile Joey laid down the second six-second pass of round two eliminations which advanced him to the third round of eliminations and set the stage for a Yoder/DME rematch. Andy and Dimey felt comfortable with the data they had gathered during the heat, so they put a tad more in the tune-up and defeated Bud Yoder in the semis with a scorching hot pass of 6.938 at 210mph. Setting the stage for a final round matchup with surprise finalist Ryan Hable some may have thought they were going to see a detuned pass from Team DME. However that was not the case as Skip Gladstone tweaked the critical clutch setup to squeeze even more performance from the bike. Joey left first and never looked back as ‘ol Black Betty’ powered him to the quickest pass of the event with a 6.913 for the win.

With four number one qualifiers and three event wins to start off the 2015 season it’s safe to say this championship team is looking for more #1 year end awards. When asked what the key to their success team owner Dimey Eddinger had this to say, “It really all comes down to the word ‘TEAM’… I know that sounds cliché’, but I truly believe we’ve assembled the best team possible. We work well together, we work hard, and most importantly we have fun.”

The whole DME team thanks DME Racing, Penske Shocks, Catalyst Racing Composites, NLR, Vanson Leathers, Lucas Oil, CP/Carillo, Web Cams, Worldwide Bearings, Cometic Gaskets, Robinson Industries, VP Racing Fuel, Dunigan Racing, DCE, MTC, APE, Vance & Hines, Beringer Brakes, and Blouch Performance Turbo for their continued support.
