Hawaya Racing : Vickers, Thornley Meet in Another Final
VICKERS, THORNLEY MEET IN ALL HRP FINAL FOR SECOND STRAIGHT RACE AT THE MAN CUP!
2014 NHRA Champion Johnny Vickers and 2015 NHRA Champion Janette Thornley paired up for the second weekend in a row at the Manufacturers Cup finals held in Valdosta Georgia on November 13th -14th -15th, 2015. Nine riders entered the Hawaya Racing/S&S sponsored P/F class for their last chance to blast down the quarter mile in the 2015 season. Johnny Vickers on the Terminator bike with the Gen-4 Derringer engine package, qualified in the #1 position running a 7.200 ET @ 175.18. Vickers made 5 passes during the event, all 5 being quicker than the entire field for the weekend. 2015 AMRA and Man Cup Champion Rocky Jackson coming closest to Vickers with a 7.293 second run in the semis.
In the first round of eliminations, Vickers bested 2015 NHRA #2 Dennis Fisher, running a 7.188 ET @ 170.08 MPH to Dennis’s 7.913 pass. In round 2, Vickers took the win over Jackson in the closest race of eliminations, 7.264 to 7.293. In the final round of eliminations Vickers faced off against NHRA teammate Janette Thornley. Janette’s bike has been fast all year long, and she has been working on her riding skills and reaction times. Johnny got a slight hole shot on Janette and went on to take the win, 7.204 to Janette’s 7.414 ET.
HRP initially got in involved with the management of the Man Cup events after Prostar went under and worked with them to include the Pro Fuel Harleys in their program. I thought it was a great program and would be good exposure for the P/F class. For 5 years now, HRP has provided sponsorship for this class in all Man Cup events. I always run well at the Cup events says Johnny. Especially at South Georgia Motorsports Park. The weather was very challenging this past weekend with the temps really plunging after the sun went down. Many teams were hurting pistons and a few torched heads. After the Las Vegas win, I was starting to get comfortable with the Gen-4 package and knew that the track and conditions would be there to run quick. I would have liked to pushed it a bit harder, but with 3 other bikes to keep in the show, I thought is best take is easy and not hurt anything. The new engine package is working as expected, so now I will move forward with the production of the Gen 4 Derringer upgrade package as planned.” It was a great race as over 660 entrants representing at least 7 countries, lined up to do battle at the final race of the year. Chris Hannam made the show on his HRP T/F bike and is making progress. All in all, it was a great season for HRP with the NHRA Champion, AMRA Champion and the Man Cup Champion all on HRP built, Derringer powered machines.
