Matheson Chasing 4th Australian National Drag Racing Championship

With three consecutive Australian Championships under his belt and multiple National Records, Chris Matheson has his sights on number 4.

With one round remaining in the ANDRA Series to decide the Championship, Matheson said it just can’t come quickly enough. We are second in the points chase behind arch rival Chris Porter, who leads on 174 to Matheson’s 157. We need to win the round to have a shot at the National Championship and trust me, we will be doing our very best to get the result. The last round will be held at the Adelaide International Raceway in South Australia.

Matheson said we have had a 100% win record at Adelaide International Raceway over the years of competing there and have run 5.3 seconds around the 200 mph mark over the 1000ft length. It’s a good track and the crowds turn out to support the competitors.

Matheson said there is over 100 points on offer in the Grand Final and we need to get as many as we can if we have any chance of improving our second position.

My new Team have never raced at Adelaide International Raceway and are excited about the challenge ahead. Matheson said it’s only a matter of weeks away and we have another major double round of racing in between competing in the rival National Championship, IHRA 400 Thunder Series.

Following the recent double points round of the 400 Thunder Series at Perth Motorplex, we travel to Brisbane’s Willowbank Raceway for the Santos Super 3 Extreme in late March, again a crucial double round.

Matheson said it’s all go, the multiple rounds give us the opportunity to get a handle on our machine and try to improve our times. Multiple rounds of regular racing is great, it gives us the racing we need to keep in the “groove”. These bikes are too dangerous to leave in the workshop. The Team and the Rider all need to race at least once every few weeks to ensure we are all working at our optimum. The old adage “practice makes perfect” is 100% correct!

If I could race every day I would, it’s just a whole lot of fun!!
