Rick Eaton Man Cup Finals Pre Race Report

It’s the biggest race of the year in the motorcycle world, The Manufacturers Cup World Finals, and this event has always been a favorite of mine. We spend a great deal of our racing season taking on dragsters and other fast cars on the 1/8 mile, so motorcycle only events on the 1/4 mile are a real treat for me. We LOVE The Manufacturers Cup tour, we appreciate the sponsors…. and I love the big speeds on the longer tracks.

South Georgia Motorsports Park is one of my favorite tracks for a few reasons. I love the smooth surface, pit layout and the people are always great. When it comes to safety, the super long shut down area and fast reacting medical staff is reassuring. But my #1 reason is the traction. We are expecting cool weather this weekend so that means quick times and big speeds for all in attendance. We are cranking the shift points up and I am already smiling.

We have not been on this tour since April but our team has been busy. We scored wins at several racetracks, had a few runner-ups, won a Track Championship in Bradenton, and performed extremely well last weekend against a very tough field of dragsters at a recent big $$$ bracket race in Immokalee, Florida. The team also expanded this year with the addition of JD Kittredge and Sonny Thompson. Both of these men are not only great, veteran riders, they can also tune and build engines. They have become invaluable.

We are bringing in a stack of broken parts for the various manufacturers to repair this week so the savings in shipping will pay for our entry fees. If you run a motorcycle and don’t attend the Manufacturers Cup, it’s a huge mistake. These events have become an essential part of my racing preparation. We not only get to see what the top teams are doing, we also get to talk to the experts about any negative issues we have or may have in the future. These experts know how to go fast and win and they will share all of their secrets if you simply ask.

After the Manufacturers Cup World Finals we return to Immokalee, Florida for the biggest race of our career against the dragsters…with over $60,000 to win posted. We will go from there to the Citrus Nationals at Palm Beach International, once again against the cars for a sizable amount of cash. We will conclude our 2016 season against a bike field at the Snowbird Nationals in Bradenton, Florida, December 2-4.

None of this would be possible without JD and Denise Kittredge, My brother Chuck, Roy and Candy Hagadorn, Ralph and Thomas Hester, Mike and Danielle Mocny, Claude Debonis, Steve and JR at South County Cycle in Venice, Wade Rich and Ozzy Moya, Sonny Thompson, Jay Regan, Bob Moles and Staff, Dave Schnitz, and Don Plesser. We would also like to thank MRE for the kick ass race transmissions, Mickey Thompson for the tires, MTC Engineering for the clutches and pistons, AAMCO of Venice, PR Factory Store, Pit Stop of Venice, VP Race Fuels, MSD Ignition, and Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil.and last but never least, our crew chief… Lulu.
