Team Liberty Racing Qualifying Report

Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals

On Friday, Cory Reed started off the team’s qualifying effort off with a solid 6.932-second pass at 189.04 mph. Angelle Sampey followed right behind Reed with a 6.943, 192.49. After battling rain showers all day, the humidity began to rise before the second session. Reed and Sampey staged up against each other in Friday’s late evening session and together they ran identical 6.95s. Sampey clocked in with a 6.955, 180.89 and Reed crossed the finish line a tick after with a 6.958, 191.74.

Saturday, Reed and Sampey continued to show the true consistency of their Victory Magnum Pro Stock motorcycles. In the first session of the day, it was a 6.951, 190.86 for Reed and a comparable 6.957, 192.74 for Sampey. To finish out qualifying at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, the duo faced each other once again. Reed closed out qualifying with a 6.968, 191.02 while Sampey slowed to a 7.145, 162.96.

“We’ve been very consistent,” three-time Pro Stock Motorcycle World Champion Sampey said. “I’m very happy we qualified high enough in the first session that we were able to improve instead of being in survival mode. I feel confident about tomorrow even though I’m starting from the bottom half of the field.”

No. 9 Reed will take on No. 8 Mike Berry and No. 12 Sampey will take on No. 5 Scotty Pollacheck.

“Our performance hasn’t been the greatest out there but it was good enough to get the job done,” 2016’s Rookie of the Year Reed said. “We’ve got some seriously consistent bikes right now; it’s ridiculous. We’re changing some things right now for raceday and I think we’ll get a little faster for tomorrow.”
